New season 2009

Welcome everyone to another year at Doha Juniors Football Club (DJFC). We are proud to welcome back many families that have been with us for several years now, and looking forward to meeting the new parents and kids. Last week we had our first practice and all went well. We have a good number in each group but there is space still available in all the groups. I would like to see more in the 10+ group so we can setup games against other teams around Doha this year.

Our coaches are separating the teams into smaller groups to give the players the most contact time with the ball. To make this work we need parent support to referee games between 4 to 6 players (2 on 2 or 3 on 3). Practices also include skills development and game situations, this gives players the chance to improve and practice what they have learned.

The weather is getting to be just perfect for practices but you still need to bring lots of water. I will bring a cooler of water to share if the kids run out and there is a water cooler at the pitch if they need more.

Thanks for all the support over the last 4 years, if you are enjoying it tell your friends and have them come out and practice with us. The more kids we have out on the pitch the more fun we can have.

Soccer Continues

It has been a great month so far with the weather holding up the way it is, and the coaches dedication to the sport. I am happy to say we are still practicing every Friday morning from 8 to 9:30. So come out and kick the ball around till the end of the month. Hope to see you out there enjoying yourselves.

Good News Soccer Fans

Hello all,
Good news we had a pleasant turnout for the registration on Friday. I have coaches for all age groups and with parent support assistants as well (more to come). The good news is if you have friends who have been asking if there is a football club around they can put their kids in the answer is still yes. With each group we have a head coach and an assistant coach so we can allow up to 20 participants in each. Our registration numbers are as follows:

3 to 5 14
6 to 7 6
7 to 8 11
10+ 8

So this means we can allow a few more in all the groups especially the 6 to 7 year old group. Sign up for new comers is this weekend Friday morning October 17th. It just so happens that this coincides with our first practice for those who signed up last week, so come prepared and bring lots of water.

Looking forward to it.

A new Season of Soccer

I will first appoliogize for the confusion about the start date of the soccer season from the blog site. Second I will welcome everyone back for a new season of soccer starting October 10th on the VCU field at Qatar Foundation (Education City). We will be doing registration and signups for the new season starting at 8am, this is only for those who were registered last year with the club. Signup will be for players and coaches so we know how many kids can be in each age group. There will not be a practice that day due to a few changes in the rules concerning the use of the field (liability issues and QF). The cost will be 300QR for each child, again a ball and kit can be provided, the kits are the same as the last couple of years so if they don't need a new one no problem if they want a new kit no problem the cost is the same.

Again we will be looking for assistant coaches and coaches for the various age groups, no experience necessary, you just need to be motivated, enjoy working with kids and be available each week. Without parent support we may lose some age groups. We can only allow 10 kids for each coach on the field for obvious reasons so the more parents that are helping the more kids we can have on the field playing.

The age groups are as listed:
3 to 5 (very new to soccer)
5 to 6 (some ball skills)
7 to 8
9 to 10
10+

Another successful year

It was a good season of football and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for coming out each week and supporting our club. I would especially like to thank all the coaches who dedicated their time to teaching the kids. They took their time and came out each week to help our kids and they did a wonderful job of it.

We will start again in September with a couple for registration days on the 12th and 19th. Then it all starts again after Ramadan on October 10th with practices again. I look forward to seeing most of you out there again next season. Have a wonderful summer break and remember to keep practicing those skills over the summer.

End Of Season

The end of the season is fast approaching. We will have 2 more sessions before the end of the year. We will officially finish up on MAy 9th. The weather is getting warmer so to save any suffering we will wrap things up. Please let others know of this if they have not heard. We will tell the kids at soccer this week.

It has been a good seaon and we have developed in many ways through the year.

I would like to thank all the coaches who have dedicated their free time to helping out. We need more for next year so please think about it, no experience or skills are needed, just time dedication. We have had some issues but most are minor and have been sorted each week.

Cancelled Practice

Practice will be cancelled on March 21 and MArch 28. The field we use has been book by another organization. We will try to make up the missed practices at the end of the season if the weather allows us to.

Also I would like to invite everyone to join us for the Terry Fox run on March 14 after practice. Registration begins at noon and the run starts at 2pm. There will be food and games for all who wish to join in the fun. You can walk, run, ride, rollerblade your way around either a 2km loop or 5km loop. Hope to see most of you out there suopporting a good cause.
