Cancelled Soccer Practice

I hate to inform people that soccer practice scheduled for December 7 and December 14 will have to be cancelled. The field we use is in use by another group so we will be unable to practice. We will resume practice on January 11th as ussual. I look forward to seeing everyone back in the new year and will keep people posted over the holidays.

Housekeeping issues

First I would like to thank everyone for their support of the cub so far this season. It has been a rough start, but with your help it has been good. Second I would like to say to the coaches your help is greatly appreciated and we could not do this without you.

Now for the other side of things. A few reminders to parents. There must be someone on the field responsible for your child at all times. If your child gets hurt we cannot stand around and wait for you to come and take them to the hospital. You do not have to be there every week but someone on the field has to be responsible for your child at all times while practice is going on. We do not foresee any injuries but like any sport they do occur from time to time.

Third, if you are helping out by coaching there will be a quick meeting after practice this week. If you could stick around for a few extra minutes that would be appreciated. Also if you are coaching and you know you are going to be away, please ask someone to cover for you. It happened last week were we had to ask a parent on the sidelines to jump in because both the coaches for one of the age groups were away and had not let anyone else know. This can cause problems for the players and they should not be punished because the coach is not there.

Finally, I will be bringing the uniforms for sizing this week so if you could take a minute and come see what size your son or daughter needs I will have a sample of each. They are the same as last year, if you want another that is good if you do not want an extra outfit that is your choice. I will place the order once I have all the sizes and know how many to order.

If there are any other issues let me know and I will look into addressing them as soon as possible.

Thanks for your time,

Bryan Holmstrom

Practice this Friday

I am away this week, but my wife Amanda Holmstrom will be around to help. If you have any questions please direct them to her. I look forward to seeing everyone back at practice soon enough.

I am also looking for a few more parents to help coach not be a head coach but just to help out. The ares we really need more help is with the 8 and 9 year olds and especially with the oldest group of 11 to 13 year olds. If you can help out that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all you Moms and Dads who stepped up on Friday to take a group and work with them. If you want ideas check the links for coaching ideas with your age group.

Soccer times

Soccer begins this Friday morning starting at 8am on the lower field behind VCU on QF campus. We will run sessions for about 1 hour each week. Registration fees are 300QR per player and this gets them a team kit, their own football and the 21 training sessions. Please remember that players should have proper footwear and shin guards when playing. I look forward to seeing everyone there on Friday morning.

What is Doha Juniors Soccer Club

We are a non-profit organization that wants to provide an opportunity for all children in Doha to play soccer. We practice each Friday morning at Qatar Foundation on the soccer fields located behind VCU. We accept children of all ages and abilities and provide them with the chance to improve their skills. The coaches are all volunteers and are there to assist the children, but are not trained professionals. We charge a small fee of 300QR for the season and with that you receive your own soccer ball, a training outfit and the practice sessions.

I am not a trained professional but I do have an interest in allowing my children the opportunity to play soccer with other kids. I am a teacher at QLA and assisted with the implementation and program carried out last year by the soccer club. The fonding member had to leave Doha and I have now taken the initiative to run the club this year.

The expectation is that the club can help your kids to improve their skills but mainly to get out and have some fun with other children of the same age. This is not a competitive league, but if the opportunity is presented there may be games played against other teams. As the club grows I hope to see more opportunities for travel and competition.

Looking for ward to new season.

Soccer Season 2007-2008

The soccer season this year will consist of 22 training sessions as follows.

Nov 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Jan 11, 18, 25
Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
March 7, 14, 21, 28

As always we need to have coaches for all the kids available each week. If you are unable to be there one week please let someone know so they can be there to help out. If you are unable to find someone let me know and I can arrange for a coach to help out.

I hope everyone is ready to kick this season off, I know I am very excited about this year. We have had a great response already and once this start I hope to see even more people out there. Looking forward to the start see you all soon.
